II Timothy 3
/“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (v16). One of Timothy’s main roles was to teach others, using the Scriptures, so that they would be equipped as Jesus’ disciples in the world. But Paul warned him that he would be opposed by people who were “lovers of self, lovers of money ... heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control
...” (v2-3). These people might pretend to be interested in learning (v7), but they were troublemakers.
“... that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (v17). Contrary to the arrogant spirit of the age, learning and ongoing discipleship “equip us for “every good work.”
