Jeremiah 11-12

In these chapters, Jeremiah brings an indictment against God's people for a "conspiracy exists" among them. They have "gone after other gods" (12:9-10). God means for Israel to flourish like "an olive tree, beautiful with fruit" but since they have rejected the God "who planted them," "disaster is decreed against them" (12:16-17).

As God's people, we must be aware of the danger of presumption. We must be vigilant concerning our own temptations to sin and must live in honest humility about the "stubbornness of (own) hearts." Repentance is not just for those outside of God's people, but for all of us. God promises as we repent, he will "again have compassion" on us.
