Jeremiah 43-44
/“But they did not listen or incline their ear, to turn from their evil and make no offerings to other gods” (44:5). The Babylonians had conquered Judah, and many people were taken into exile. Some of the Israelites left behind fled to Egypt for safety and declared that they would keep sacrificing to idols (44:25), such as the “Queen of Heaven,” because they did not trust the Lord. Jeremiah warned them that neither their idols nor the Egyptian rulers could keep them safe; their rebellion against God might cost everything (ch 44).
The “word of the Lord” (43:8) to us is that there is no real security outside faith and obedience to Christ. He is our only unfailing Rock.
