Jeremiah 49-52
/“My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray, turning them away on the mountains” (50:6). Jeremiah pronounced terrible judgment on Israel for forsaking God. The Babylonians burnt the Temple in Jerusalem, knocked down walls, and stole the bronze objects used in worship (ch 52). Yet, there was hope: “In those days and in that time ... the people of Israel and the people of Judah shall come together, weeping as they come, and they shall seek the LORD their God” (50:4).
The destruction of sin is real, but God is eager to forgive and welcome us home: “They shall ask the way to Zion, with faces turned toward it” (50:5).
