1 Peter 2
/“And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed” (v2). Peter and other church elders were far more concerned with the conduct of believers – those “among you” (v1) - than they were the godless society around them. Knowing the potential for harm, Peter did not tolerate false Christian leaders who introduced heresy (v1), “despised authority” (v10), and “enticed unsteady souls” (v14) for fame and profit. These dangerous teachers promised young believers “freedom” from laws and obligations but were themselves slaves of sin (v19).
As “heralds of righteousness” (v5), our conduct matters. The humble, gentle witness of our daily lives helps others see that Jesus is real.
