Ezekiel 17-18
/“Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine” (18:14). In ancient societies, it was common for families to be held accountable for the sins of a relative. But the Lord declared that each person is accountable for their own actions. “The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of his father” (18:20) nor fathers for sons. Also, in contrast to society, God does not judge by past reputation, but by current choices (18:27). God looks directly at the heart of each individual.
“So turn, and live” (18:32). God’s word brings freedom. Rather than being condemned for our background or associations, He calls us to personally choose His path.
