Ezekiel 22-24
/“The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day” (24:2). God had warned Judah repeatedly that judgment was coming, and the northern territory of Israel had already been lost to the Assyrians (ch 23), but no one would listen. Jerusalem was filled with sin: “Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the sojourner suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow are wronged in you” (22:7). Sexual sin and violence were normalized, and prophets and priests led the way (22:25-26).
“Behold, I will profane my sanctuary ...” (24:21). Sin is costly. God was willing to destroy His own Temple, and even more, give His own Son, to make a way for us to redeemed.
