Proverbs 27
/“The sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel” (v9). The proverbs urge us to let wise people into our lives so that we live in the light of reality instead of fantasies of success and self-justification. Rather than telling us what we want to hear or downplaying the dangers of sin, good friends help us face difficult truths with compassion (v6). They also give us encouraging words when we need them (v2) and provide real help in our troubles (v10).
“Iron sharpens iron” (v17). Alone, our burdens are heavy and our weaknesses overwhelm us, but faithful friends share the load and point us to God.
