II Peter 1
/“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness” (v3). Peter, who was an eyewitness of Jesus’ majesty (v16), assured believers that God had given them “all things” they needed to live for Him. They were not left alone to follow Jesus’ example; instead, through the indwelling Holy Spirit, they were actually “partakers of the divine nature” (v4) and empowered to grow up in maturity. Therefore, they should “make every effort” to supplement their faith with virtue, godliness, self-control, and love (v5).
God doesn’t want us to “ineffective or unfruitful” as we follow Christ, so He invites us to participate in the Spirit’s work to move us toward maturity (v8).
