Matthew 8
/“When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick” (16). Jesus came to reconcile us to the Father, and his ministry of reconciliation touched the physical and emotional needs of humans, not just their eternal destinies. Matthew says that Jesus’ compassion and healing fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy that he would “bear” our diseases and weaknesses – being moved by our pain (3), healing and showing mercy, recognizing and dealing with our fears (26).
“Why are you so afraid?” (26). Jesus is God with us, ready to make himself known in our sorrows and worst fears. He came to bring light into our darkness.
