Genesis 16-17
/“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me” (16:13). Hagar’s forced pregnancy and desert exile turned into an extraordinary encounter with God Himself. The Lord saw her predicament and did not ignore her, even though she was ‘outside’ the covenant with Abraham. Instead, God promised to rescue her and bless her with many descendants. Eventually, through Abraham, “the father of many nations,” (17:4) the way would open for Hagar’s descendants and other nations to become one family through faith in Christ.
“I have now seen the One who sees me” (16:13). The God of creation sees us, knows our names, and desires to have a relationship with us.
