Genesis 25-30
/“He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven ...” (28:12). Fleeing his brother’s vengeance, Jacob dreamed of a connection between heaven and earth. Though Jacob had done nothing to earn it, God gave him the same remarkable promise He had given Abraham: “Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth ... All peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (28:14-15). Jacob’s part was to believe and follow.
“I am with you” (28:15). Like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, we do not deserve God’s mercy. Yet He calls us to Himself in love and kindness, and He promises to never leave us.
