I Peter 2-3

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession” (2:9, 2:5). Peter explained that by faith in Christ, all believers have become God’s special people. While ancient Israelites lived separately from Gentiles, Jesus empowers us to live “good lives” among the pagans (2:12) so that they see and glorify God. By enduring persecution patiently, submitting to authority (2:13) and answering people with “gentleness and respect” (2:17; 3:15), Jesus is made known through us.

“Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves” (2:16). As God’s beloved people in Christ, we are called to submit our freedom to his greater, holy purposes.
