I Peter 1
/“In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade” (3-4). Peter reminded the scattered and persecuted believers that they were already chosen and redeemed, and their eternal inheritance was completely secure (1). The trials they were facing (6) were not evidence that they had done something wrong. Instead, the “proven genuineness of their faith” in the midst of trouble was serving to honor and glorify Jesus, whom they loved (7-8).
As we hang on to Jesus despite testing, trouble, and grief, God considers our faith “of greater worth than gold” (7).
