Deuteronomy 3-7
/The Book of Deuteronomy is a condensed version of the Exodus experience. It is a short series of sermons by Moses recounting events and emphasizing the lessons that should have been learned. No event was greater than the giving of the Decalogue, the Law, at Sinai, three months after the slaves had left Egypt (Ex. 19:1). As Moses recounts that event, Deut. 5:1-29, he reminds them of the voice of God, the mountain burning with fire, the glory of God being revealed and the terror of the people. In telling this, Moses captured the essence of the Law, “Hear O Israel” (6:4).
“The Lord is our God, the Lord is One! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart.” God expects no less from us – “all of your heart.”
