Psalm 14

“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good” (1). The psalmist understood that corrupt deeds begin with rejecting God in our hearts and minds. Paul said later in Romans that everyone is guilty of this: “there is no one who does good, not even one” (3). We all fall short of acknowledging God and obeying him. Yet the psalmist knew God had not abandoned his people but instead remained among them (5).

“Oh that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!” (7). God did not leave us alone in our self-destruction. Out of Zion came Jesus, bringing salvation for Israel and the whole world.
