Genesis 26-30

“He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it” (28:12). Jacob’s first personal encounter with God showed the Lord’s willingness to keep covenant with Abraham’s family. God’s promises continued: the gift of the Promised Land, and blessing for “all peoples on earth” through Jacob’s descendants (28:13-15). Jacob believed, yet he also wanted personal reassurance: “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking ...” (28:20).

“Then the Lord will be my God” (28:21). God’s plan is for the whole world, yet he is more than willing to demonstrate how he cares for each of us individually.
