Genesis 1-2

“Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground” (1:28). God gave humanity powerful potential and a high calling: to rule the beautiful planet he had created. They were to “rule” and “subdue” according to God’s image – not to harm or dominate, but wisely, lovingly, helping the world thrive. They were called to do this together, not in competition (1:26-27; 2:23).

“So God created mankind in his own image ... male and female” (1:27). Putting our faith in Jesus includes reclaiming our calling as God’s image-bearers and accepting our responsibility to live out his purposes in the world..
