Leviticus 4-5
/“Anyone who cannot afford a lamb is to bring two doves or two young pigeons to the Lord as a penalty for their sin” (5:7). The rules for bringing offerings to the tabernacle in Leviticus acknowledged the fact that not all Israelites had the same resources. Rather than exclude the poor from offerings and worship, the Law allowed them to bring pigeons (rather than a lamb); those who could not afford even pigeons could simply bring their best flour (5:11).
“They will be forgiven” (5:14). The Israelites were divided by tribe, family , and number of possessions. Yet at a deeper level, like us, they were united in their need for forgiveness and their total dependency on the Lord.
