Leviticus 1-3

“You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you” (1:3). Leviticus describes different kinds of offerings which the Israelites could bring to the Lord. The “burnt offering” was accepted “to make atonement” for sins, and the Israelites could also bring grain offerings and “fellowship offerings” which, when burned, became “a pleasing aroma” to the Lord (3:5). These were all ways the holy, awesome Creator God allowed sinful Israelites to engage in worship.

Jesus “offered himself” on the cross for our sins, so we no longer need to make atonement (Heb 7:27). Instead, God calls us to offer our lives to him as “holy and pleasing” worship (Romans 12).
