Leviticus 6-7

“They must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the owner on the day they present their guilt offering” (6:5). The Law recognized that many types of sin were offenses against both God and neighbor. Unfaithfulness to the Lord (6:2) often resulted in treating others badly, such as deception, breaking promises, neglecting responsibility, lying, stealing, etc (6:1-5). Leviticus directs the sinner to make things right with their neighbor (restoring what was broken or lost, with added value) while also presenting a sacrifice to the Lord.

“Forgive us our debts, as we have also forgiven our debtors” (Mt 6:12). Being reconciled to God through Christ includes opening our hearts to reconciliation with one another.
