Psalm 99

“Lord our God, you answered them, you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds” (8). We learn what is “just and right” (4) through God’s interactions with Moses, Aaron, Samuel and others (6-7). The stories of how God called Abraham and blessed his descendants, and how these individuals acted in faith (or not) help us understand who God is and who we are. The New Testament explains that Israel’s history serves as both warning and encouragement for us (I Corinthians 10:1).

“Let them praise your great and awesome name” (3). We know God’s “name” – his character and ways – because he reaches out to people like us. He is Creator, Judge, Savior, Healer, Messiah – God with us.
