Lamentations 1-3

“Your wound is as deep as the sea. Who can heal you?” (2:13). Jeremiah lamented and wept over the terrible suffering of Judah’s people and the destruction of Jerusalem, the sacred city. Spiritual leaders had failed to warn people of God’s judgment. “The visions of your prophets were false and worthless; they did not expose your sin” (2:14). Yet Jeremiah believed God’s mercy was still available. “I have hope: because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail” (3:22).

When sin has caused chaos in our lives, only the Lord can bring the healing and restoration we need. “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him” (3:24).
