I Corinthians 11-13

“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good” (12:7). Paul taught that the Spirit of God “distributes” gifts to those who follow Jesus so that, as a Body, we have everything we need. We are interdependent, unable to exist alone (12:21), and our gifts of wisdom, knowledge, faith, prophecy, healing, etc. are not our own: they are for “the common good.” As members of one Body, we honor one another, show concern for one another, and suffer and rejoice together (12:24-26).

“The greatest of these is love” (13:13). Love enables us to use our gifts wisely; instead of seeking power, love focuses us on knowing and being known (13:12).
