I Corinthians 9-10
/“Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible” (9:19). Following Christ’s example, Paul gave up many of his rights when he thought it was better for others (10:23-33). He taught that “those who preach the gospel should receive their living by the gospel” (9:14), yet he personally chose not to take support (9:18). Jewish by birth and custom, he became like those without the Law to win them (9:21).
“I do all this for the sake of the gospel” (9:23). We follow Jesus, who gave up his rights for us; we are called to bend our lives toward those still seeking him.
