Psalms 85-86

“Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy” (86:1). The psalmist knew that the life God desired for humanity was one of peace and joy: “Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other” (85:10). Yet because of the brokenness in the world and in us, we face challenges of every kind; we are “poor and needy.” Thankfully, our God is “forgiving and good,” and when we call out in distress, he answers compassionately (86:5-7).

“Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness” (86:11). In an unpredictable and difficult world, when we lean on God’s kindness and faithfulness, we find the peace we seek.
