Isaiah 28-29
/“These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (29:13). Isaiah announced God’s judgment on Israel because they were following “human rules” of religion (29:13) while hiding behind lies (28:15). Isaiah called them back to repentance, especially the priests and prophets and other leaders who were drunk and failing their people (28:7).
“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone ... the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic” (28:16). We don’t have to hide behind guilty lies or the shakiness of false religion. God invites us to live transparently in the love, forgiveness, and holiness of Christ, our sure cornerstone.
