Psalm 4

“How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?” (2). The psalmist understood that the people around him were charmed by “delusions” – lies – that led them away from God, toward destruction. Whether trusting in their religious identity, keeping the rules, or chasing exotic idols, they were missing the glory of God (2). They wondered “Who will bring us prosperity?” (6) and followed leaders and idols that promised it. Facing these temptations, the psalmist asked for real joy in the Lord.

“Let the light of your face shine on us” (6). The restless seeking of our hearts and minds will not be satisfied by counterfeits, because real joy and peace are only found in walking closely with Jesus (7-8).
