Philippians 3-4

“But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ” (3:7). Paul had a lot to be proud of (3:4-6), but he considered it “garbage” compared to the glory of being found in Christ (3:8). All his personal striving, ‘winning” in the eyes of his community, gaining attention and meeting goals – it was nothing compared to the gift of Jesus. Paul wanted to go deeper: “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings” (3:10).

“I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me” (3:12). Knowing Jesus and letting his way become our way is the life-long journey of faith.
