Romans 5-6

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead ... we too may live a new life” (6:4). Paul explains that baptism symbolizes death to the old sinful life. In that life, sin was our Master, and we were committed to pursuing our own way. But by faith, that old life was put to death with Jesus on the cross, and we now share his resurrection life (8). Through Christ we can live for God’s glory into eternity (6:15-23).

By grace through faith, we have been reborn, and the Spirit teaches us to “obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance” (6:17).
