Luke 1

“I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news” (19). Just as God spoke to Abraham, Sarah, Moses, and others, God sent an angel to speak to Zechariah, Mary (28), and later Joseph. God chose to work his salvation (68) and “mighty deeds” (51) through the lives of ordinary people, drawing them into his plan and inviting their cooperation. He chose to send his own Son through one of society’s most vulnerable and powerless members, a young woman.

“The Lord is with you” (28). God is sovereign, yet he chooses to work with us and through us, making Jesus known, by his Spirit.
