Mark 15-16

“With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom” (15:37-38). While the people around Jesus saw the triumph of the Romans and the religious leaders – the Messiah being crucified as a criminal – Mark tells us that God’s purpose was being fulfilled. Jesus the Son, who had made himself human, paid for our sins, and the curtain separating us from our holy Creator was torn open. Jesus suffered humiliation so that he could carry us with him into God’s presence.

“Surely this man was the Son of God!” (15:39). When we glimpse what Jesus has done, bearing our shame so we can share his glory, we are changed.
