Proverbs 4-7

“My son, pay attention to my wisdom” (5:1). Knowing that everyone confronts temptations and traps in life, the proverbs urge us to “pay attention” to the Lord’s instructions. Ordinary human society constantly promotes the idolatry of sex (ch 6- 7), wealth, and power, and before we know it, we are in bondage to “the cords of sin” (5:22). Wise people understand that the desire for sinful things begins with our hearts. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (4:22-23)

“For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light” (6:23). God’s Word is a bright light on our path, marking out dangerous obstacles and guiding us toward abundant life.
