Mark 4
/“This is what the kingdom of God is like” (26). Jesus said that God’s kingdom was not like the flashy, domineering empires of men. Surprisingly, it is “like a mustard seed”, tiny yet full of explosive potential (31-32). It “sprouts and grows” quietly and mysteriously, by God’s power (27), yet it can be hindered by “the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things” (19). When sown into “good soil”, the seed of God’s kingdom multiplies itself “a hundred times” (20).
“Even the wind and waves obey him!” (41). Jesus looked ordinary, yet his word calmed the storm. Our faith is in God who works through quiet and ordinary means to bring about radical healing and new life.
