Mark 3

“Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” (3). The religious leaders were so concerned with their interpretation of the Law that they were blind to the real need of the disabled man in front of them. Jesus was “deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts” (4). As Jesus healed the man, the Pharisees plotted Jesus’ death. Later, Jesus warned them about blaspheming against the Holy Spirit – intentionally rejecting his saving, reconciling, redeeming work (29).

“Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother” (35). Rather than allowing self-righteousness to separate us from people, Jesus calls us to participate in his reconciling work.
