Exodus 1-2
/“Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt” (1:8). After Joseph and his family died, the Israelites multiplied in Egypt but had no protector or leader. They were a loosely knit group of clans, without a Law or rituals yet to bind them together. But as the Egyptians began to mistreat them, “God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob” (2:24). The Israelites barely remembered Abraham’s God, but he remembered them.
“So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them” (2:24). God does not forget us, no matter what trouble we experience. When our attempts at self-rescue fail, His faithfulness and mercy go beyond what we deserve.
