II Kings 1-3

“Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal- Zebub, the god of Ekron?” (1:3). The king of Israel, Ahaziah, lacked faith in God’s power and trusted him so little that when he was seriously injured, he consulted an idol instead of the Lord (1:2). The whole premise of God’s relationship with Israel was that they were his special people, chosen to display his miraculous power and faithfulness. Elijah told him that running to an idol for refuge, wisdom, or help betrayed this relationship.

The “double portion” of spiritual power desired by Elisha (2:9), came from Elijah’s rock-solid belief in God’s power and faithfulness. When we believe in him, we run to him.
