I Peter 1-3

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life” (1:3). Despite the struggles believers faced inside and outside the church, Peter reminded them that they possessed everything necessary to participate in God’s own “divine nature” through Jesus (1:3). The spiritual threats from false teachers (ch 2) and scoffers (ch 3) were real, yet they were nothing compared to the reality of the living Christ and his saving power (1:16-21). Knowing this, they should seek to be holy, loving people (1:5-7).

“What kind of people ought you to be?” (3:11). Peter emphasized that in chaotic times, we should beware temptation and “make every effort” to live as the people of Jesus, shining brightly for him (1:5; 3:14).
