I John 1

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all” (5). John wanted believers to understand the holiness and goodness of God. Some people doubted that God’s glory could really appear on earth, physically, in the man Jesus (1-2). Yet John was a witness; Jesus was indeed perfect. He shared our flesh but remained holy, and his blood is what cleanses us and gives us fellowship with God (7).

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins” (9). God is holy, all light, yet he invites us into fellowship “with the Father and with his Son” (3).
