I John 2
/“We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands” (3). John helped believers understand that “knowing” Jesus was a whole-life issue, not just beliefs or words. In fact, someone who says they “know” Jesus but whose life is a contradiction to Jesus is, according to John, a liar (4). John wanted believers to be able to evaluate religious leaders, teachers, and prophets by looking at their daily lives. “Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did” (6).
John commended those who, although not perfect, were sincerely living for Christ by the Spirit’s power. “You are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one” (14).
