Genesis 46-50
/“Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt … I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again” (46:3). Although God’s promise to his grandfather Abraham was that his descendants would prosper and multiply in Canaan, Jacob’s family needed to move to Egypt to survive. God reassured Jacob that this seeming failure wasn’t the end. Jacob’s son Joseph also believed God’s promise for future generations and asked for his bones to be carried to the Promised Land (Canaan) when God brought them back (50:25).
The God who has been our Shepherd (48:15) is faithful to multiple generations. We can trust Him to carry us through detours and troubles into His promised redemption.
