Mark 14

“Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take it; this is my body’” (22). Jesus knew that his death was the only way to create a new covenant of grace for all people (24). The disciples resisted the cross, hoping for a different kind of salvation. Judas betrayed Jesus for money, while Peter denied knowing Jesus in his suffering (66-72). But Jesus’ life had to be “poured out” for God’s kingdom to come in power (24).

“He gave it to them, and they all drank from it” (23). Jesus poured out his life for us, and as his disciples, filled with his Spirit, we pour out our lives for him.
