John 9
/“How did he open your eyes?” (26). The religious leaders interrogated the man who had been healed, as if what had happened was scandalous. They objected to the fact that Jesus ‘broke the rules’ of the Sabbath (16), and they knew Jesus’ power threatened their own social and spiritual status. Sadly, their pride blocked them from the grace Jesus offered. “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains” (41).
“I was blind but now I see!” (25). Only when we confess that we are blind (and weak and needy) can we receive anything from the Lord. He has good gifts for those whose hands are open.
