Deuteronomy 13-17
/“You shall appoint for yourself judges. . . . They shall judge the people fairly,” Deut. 16:19. A fair judicial system is critical for a nation to flourish. Partiality from bribe or bigotry, or prejudiced, toxic, sectarian or party loyalty blinds the eyes. “Justice, and justice alone you shall pursue that you may live and possess the land" (16:20).
Decisions of judges or courts must not be seen as “right” or “wrong” because of the group or party they favor, but because they are right in the eyes of God. Our nation will never have internal peace until judges seek to rule righteously. God will give them wisdom, but their intent must be fairness. We must pray for right appointments and fearless righteousness in judgements.
