Psalm 109-111
/“Out of the goodness of your love, deliver me” (109:21). The psalmist longed for God to arise and punish those who threatened, slandered, and betrayed him (109:1-5). He desired justice in an unfair, chaotic world. God promised to send a King who would defeat enemies and make things right: “The Lord says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet” (110:1). And this Messiah-King, seeing humanity’s real need, would also be a priest (110:4).
“I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded” (109:22). Jesus, Savior and Healer, has defeated our worst enemies – the sin and shame of our own hearts. We find freedom and wholeness in his kingdom.
