Ezekiel 21-28
/“The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the foreigner, denying them justice” (22:29). Israel and Judah were condemned because they knew God’s ways but rejected them. Instead of calling for repentance, “her prophets whitewash these deeds” (22:28). Foreign cities like Tyre were condemned for misusing their wealth and power (ch 26). Tyre was “perfect in beauty ... the garden of God” (28:12-13) yet wanted even more.
“But you are a mere mortal and not a god ...” (28:2). Because we are “mere mortals,” following our own ways leads to destruction. Instead God calls us to humility and obedience, so we experience abundant life under the Good Shepherd’s rule.
