Haggai 1-2

“Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” (1:4). The prophet Haggai lived among the Jews who had returned to Israel from Babylon (Ezra 5). Even though God had rescued them from exile and miraculously led them home, the people were not honoring him. They were preoccupied with rebuilding their own houses, and God’s Temple remained in ruins (1:2,9). Haggai warned them to change their priorities before it was too late (1:5-6).

“... build My house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored” (1:8). When we honor Jesus first, our own “houses” and situations fall into place. He is the foundation and center of our lives.
