Psalm 47
/“Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy” (1). The psalmist urged “the nations” to join Israel in worshipping God, because he is “the great King over all the earth” (2). He showed his love to Israel in a particular way, giving them an “inheritance” based on Abraham’s faith (4), yet from the beginning his purpose has been to rule over “all of the earth”, which he created (7). Even “the kings of the earth” belong to God (9).
The psalmist looked forward to the day when people from around the world, united by faith in Christ, “assemble as the people of the God of Abraham” (9). The Creator deserves to be worshipped by all his creation.
