Jeremiah 47-48

“Since you trust in your deeds and riches, you too will be taken captive, and Chemosh will go into exile” (48:7). God’s judgment against the Moabites (distant cousins of Israel) mentioned their trust in three things: their deeds, riches, and the idol Chemosh. They believed their own great accomplishments would save them (48:19), or, if those failed, the false god Chemosh would rescue them. But one day, Jeremiah prophesied, they would be “ashamed” of putting their faith in ungodly and destructive things (48:13).

“Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in days to come” (48:47). Jeremiah’s prophesy against Moab ends with a word of hope. God longs for people to let go of their idols and allow Him to restore what is broken.
