Luke 5

“No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins” (v38). Jesus upset the normal religious people of his day by touching a leper (13), by forgiving sin (20) and by associating with the “wrong” people (30). When challenged on his behavior, Jesus proclaimed that things must change because his very presence demands it, and he has the authority to accomplish his will (24). New wine demands new wineskins.

“We have seen remarkable things today” (26). Jesus wants us to be part of the remarkable things he is doing: healing, forgiving, and restoring lives. He calls us to let go of bitterness and rigidity so that we can be “new wineskins”, ready to receive him.
